Free Webinar will highlight the benefits, challenges & solutions of using Sliding Headstock Machines

3D Systems in collaboration with Gardner Publications' Modern Machine Shop Magazine, will hold a free webinar on its GibbsCAM software for production machining and Swiss-style (sliding headstock) lathes and multi-tasking machines (MTMs) on September 2, at 2:00 P.M. EDT (1:00 P.M Central, 11:00 A.M. Pacific).

The webinar will be conducted by Andy Heffner, 3D Systems' GibbsCAM applications engineer and MTM specialist. The webinar will cover different configurations of machines, from the simplest, single-spindle, single-gang machines, to those with live tooling and B-axis doing 4- and 5-axis machining, and those with three tool groups and multiple sliding-headstock spindles. Andy will present the benefits of each type of machine, describe typical parts and lot sizes for each machine configuration, and then discuss the several challenges of implementing, programming and using Swiss-style machines safely and productively. Andy will also illustrate software solutions for the challenges best solved by software, and provide guidelines for implementation that minimizes or eliminates the challenges that software cannot solve.
As master tool and die maker in Germany, Andy Heffner leveraged his shop experience into an applications engineer position at machine-tool builder Traub, working in Los Angeles from 1990 to 1997. When Traub was acquired by a competitor, Mr. Heffner went to work at DMG (Deckel-Maho-Gildemeister), and in 1999, he became an independent CNC programming consultant. Looking for MTM programming software, Mr. Heffner met Gibbs and Associates, the only company developing MTM software at the time. He joined the company in 2001, first as a consultant to Gibbs' MTM software developers, and later as GibbsCAM applications engineer and MTM specialist. Today with GibbsCAM part of 3D Systems' software solutions for manufacturing, he helps customers implement reliable programming for MTM and Swiss-style machines.
